Superstar Arrivals include Penta, who defends his Intercontinental Championship against “lucha leech” Rey Mysterio (don’t look at me, Michael Cole said it), Sol Ruca and Lyra Valkyria ahead of their Women’s Intercontinental Championship match, and some of the competitors in the King and Queen of the Ring tournament matches.
We cut to a video package highlighting the previous first round matches from last week’s Raw and SmackDown.
From there, we head to ringside for the arrival of DA RULA to kick off the show! He struts his way to the ring (as one is want to do) as the crowd chant his name. Femi steps through the ropes with a microphone, telling the Paris crowd they’re awesome. He would love to have them exalt him all night but they have business to attend. The crowd says “forget that” (basically) as they go back to chanting his name, much to Oba’s delight.
Oba says they have so much to touch on. First off he talks about how Paul Heyman doesn’t like predictions, he likes spoilers…and Femi has a spoiler for us tonight. He will run through every man in this tournament until he meets the final man, and that man will have fought valiantly…but he will fail, and Oba will take his rightful place as King of the Ring.
He goes on to talk about collecting trophies, but there’s one he has yet to collect…and that is the head of Brock Lesnar. Brock attacked him, got his win, and disappeared as he is nowhere to be seen. Paul Heyman talks about what he unleashed in his big bad Beast, but all Oba has seen the past three weeks is a big, bad b—h. They’re 1 and 1 but Brock will get what’s coming to him.
Oba says he’ll see him down the road, and is interrupted by Dominik Mysterio…who is almost barely audible thanks to the boos raining down upon him from the crowd in Paris. He says Femi is the ruler of nothing, asking how long the “rookie” has been here. Oba mocks the fact that Dom can barely be heard, and Mysterio repeats the question before saying Femi’s been here for a cup of coffee. Dom hypes his accomplishments, calling himself the king of the luchadores before claiming he will be the King of the Ring.
Dom approaches the ring, distracting Femi as JD McDonagh steps in with a chair. He slams it against the back of Oba…who is completely unfazed by it! He punches the chair, sending it into the face of McDonagh and sending him to the outside. He goes after JD but takes a 619 from Mysterio instead…only to catch him doing a “flying nothing” to send him crashing to the mat. Dom escapes the ring, regrouping with JD as Oba says everyone knows Rey Mysterio is Dom’s father…but next week, he’ll introduce Dom to his daddy.
Commentary talks about what just went down before taking a look at Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker last week, including the moment Breakker speared Paul Heyman through the barricade. From there we go backstage, where Seth Rollins addresses what happens before stating that The Vision is in the past for him.
